Overview

Spanish Banks East Concession is a standout fish and chips restaurant nestled along the sprawling shores of Vancouver's iconic Spanish Banks beach. Located at 4707 NW Marine Dr, this spot combines coastal charm with casual dining, making it an ideal destination for both locals and visitors seeking a classic West Coast seafood experience within a vibrant, seaside setting.

At its core, the menu pays homage to the traditional fish and chips, with hand-battered fish filets delivering a satisfying crunch without overwhelming batter. The portions are generous, inviting a hearty meal that pairs perfectly with crispy fries. For those craving variety, the Sockeye Salmon Burger offers a fresh, regional twist, reflecting the rich Pacific Northwest’s bounty. Complementary sides like yam fries and onion rings provide tasty alternatives, while the selection of fresh burgers and hot dogs caters to all appetites and preferences.

The concession’s location enhances every visit. Situated alongside wide-open sandy beaches, with panoramic views stretching 180 degrees from ocean waves to mountain silhouettes and the Vancouver skyline beyond, it’s a place where food meets nature. The adjacent seating area is thoughtfully integrated with access to public washrooms and lifeguard facilities, ensuring comfort amid outdoor leisure. Cyclists and walkers benefit from separated paths, creating a safe and welcoming environment.

This spot shines beyond just the food. It appeals to beach lovers, families, and casual diners alike who come for the ambiance as much as the fare. The shallow waters invite leisurely strolls and the surrounding outdoor space encourages barbecues, games, or simply soaking in the sun. Customers often praise the friendly service and relaxed vibe, capturing the laid-back spirit of the West Coast.

While some have noted occasional variations in the moisture and flavor of the fish or the texture of the fries, the overall experience remains immersive and satisfying. Visiting midweek or off-peak hours can enhance tranquility, allowing guests to fully appreciate both the culinary offerings and the serene coastal backdrop.

Spanish Banks East Concession is not just a fish and chips stop; it’s a coastal culinary retreat that invites you to savor fresh Pacific flavors amidst one of Vancouver’s most beautiful beach settings. Whether you’re here for a quick snack or a leisurely meal, it captures the essence of a West Coast summer, any time of year.

Spanish Banks East Beach Concession Area — Has excellent viewing /seating area adjacent to concession stand & public washrooms/lifeguard house , along with separated cycling -walking -paths & wide open sandy beaches that stretch for kilometres — & quite a lot of wildlife spotting, along with sailing/sailboarding & other activities It’s another favourite spot of mine to “Zen like Hell” & take in the panoramic views from its wide open (180 degrees uninterrupted) from ocean- mountains & city skyline beyond) Note: — I’ve uploaded some mid-late October 2019 photos from concession stand seating & nearby beach points (look for photos with Google ID: “smallstudiodesign”). I generally go to this Beach off season/after hours (early evenings/mornings, mid afternoons of midweek days) - I generally avoid crowded holidays/summer tourist season & weekends. October to April seems to be a time when it’s ok to take your dog out ont the beach (on leash).but it’s best to confirm with VANCOUVER Parks & Rec website.

Beach lovers do not miss this place. The shallow water lets you walk a long way in the ocean giving the ultimate beach walk experience. Enjoy a walk, bath, barbecue, game or all together with your friends or family. Perfect place for a sunny day outing. Check out the low tide timings for the best experience.

Had the fish and chips. I love that the batter is not super thick but the fish was dry and not very flavorful. My brother has the onion rings which were amazing but the French fries were soggy. Beautiful location for sure!!

I got the 2 pieces of fish and fries. Even though I think the food is a bit pricey, the portions of food were appropriate and very good for either a lunch or a dinner. Each piece of fish had a good size, and tasted very good, and they were accompanied by many fries (and some lemon), enough food to be satisfied for an afternoon at the beach! The service was good as well.

Really impressed with the salmon burger from this concession stand. Cooked perfectly and delicious with all the toppings and sauce. The chicken strips and fries a were good too. The service was good and the food was ready in 5 minutes even though there was a steady line of people ordering.
